Foire du Trône, funfair until June 3rd 2012 – Pelouse de Reuilly
With over 350 attractions and rides on an area of 10 hectares (25 acres), the Foire du Trône is the most popular funfair in France.
Taking place on the Reuilly lawns, this fair requires no less than 1 400 professionals to tend the various attractions, rides and stands.
Expect a Big Wheel, a handful of Roller Coasters and Haunted Houses, and a vast array of traditional fairground attractions including the inevitable candy-floss stalls and rifle ranges.
The Foire du Trône actually dates back to the year 957, the year of the first fairs under King Lothaire, although it was called the Saint-Antoine Fair and was more of an open air market. Things have evolved a great deal since then, but the spirit is the same.
The Foire du Trône remains the largest and most prestigious funfair in the whole of Europe…

Titanic, a 100 years on, From Thursday, April 12 2012 to Wednesday, August 29 2012 at Museum of Letters and Manuscripts
tT mark the centenary of the Titanic's sinking, the Museum of Letters and Manuscripts in Paris presents a score of documents and manuscripts, notably those of
Helen Churchill Candee, who inspired James Cameron for the character of Rose in the eponymous film.
On the night of April 14th to 15th, 1912, the Titanic foundered off Newfoundland, five days after embarking on its maiden voyage between Southampton and New York.
The disaster resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers and crew. Among the 700 survivors was an American novelist, Helen Churchill Candee (1858-1949),
immortalised by Kate Winslet as Rose in the famous film by James Cameron. She recounted the journey and the terrible wreck in a 36-page notebook manuscript, now in
the Museum of Letters and Manuscripts in Paris.

Degas and nude - Orsay Museum from March 13 to July 1st, 2012
This is the first major exhibition to be devoted to Edgar Degas (1834-1917) in Paris since the 1988 retrospective at the Grand Palais. Degas and the nude ties in with the Musée d'Orsay's ambition to publicise the latest teachings on the great masters of the late nineteenth century, and follows the institution's homage to Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Edouard Manet (1832-1883).

This exhibition explores the evolution of Degas in the practice of the nude throughout the artist's long career, from an academic approach and the history of its beginnings to the point at which the body shifts into modernity.

Occupying with his dancers and horses a prominent position in the work of the artist, the nude is presented in all of the techniques practiced by the artist, painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and especially pastel, in which he would achieve his highest degree of perfection.

Take this opportunity to see in one place a selection of some of the very best works of this much-loved artist, works which have been lent by some of the greatest museums all around the world.

Tim Burton, the exhibition From March 7 2012 to August 5 2012 at Cinémathèque française.
Following the MoMA in New York, where the exhibition was a resounding success, Tim Burton has chosen the Cinematheque to unveil his work to the European public!
Better known as a filmmaker, Tim Burton, the gentle Hollywood troublemaker who shook up conventions (particularly with Batman), supplied contemporary mainstream
cinema with a welcome breath of fresh air. Less well known is his work as an illustrator and photographer, heir to Edgar Allan Poe, the Surrealists, and constantly
reinterpreting popular culture (including the small masterpiece that is The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy, and fantasy such as The Nightmare Before Christmas).
Drawings, paintings, storyboards, models, costumes, film clips ... this exhibition is a unique opportunity to appreciate the extent of his artistic output. Visitors
can discover the originality of his early work produced when he was a teenager in suburban Los Angeles, and later as a student at the prestigious school of CalArts
created by Disney. There's behind the scenes footage of all his films, and films in super 8 or 16mm, early works digitised for the occasion.
